On March 28 th, 2018, Preparatory Centre for Science and Technology successfully held Asasi UMS Open Day 2018. The event was celebrated with full of joy and welcomed by many schools in Kota Kinabalu with a total of 27 schools and 883 visitors.
Among the exciting programs are Young Scientist Sci-show (YSSC), Spelling Bee, lab activities and Photobooth. The YSSC competition is one of the most exciting activities as the prize money of RM1000 was offered for the first place, RM500 and RM300 for the second and third place.All Asasi students participated in this event and each tutorial group was assigned to present their prototype on that day.

The prototypes developed were original, creative, innovative and related to Simple Harmonic Motion, Waves and Sounds, Optical Instruments, Geometric and Physical Optics, Electromagnetic and Quantum Physics. This event attracted participations of students from schools in Kota Kinabalu to attend academic talk, visit exhibition and take part in the activities held.
The event aims to expose SPM-leavers on what they can learn and experience when they enter science foundation programme, particularly in UMS.The program, which began at 8:30am, ended successfully at 4:00 pm. Prof Madya Dr.
Sazmal Effendi Arshad, Director of PPST expressed his gratitude and applauded students’ creativity which are encouraging and satisfying. Asasi UMS Open Day 2018 was wrapped up with prize giving ceremony to students who have demonstrated the best prototype. Among the best prototypes are from Tutorial 1 Group 1 with its 'Catfeeder' prototype, Team 9 Tutorial with its 'Shading Skin Test' prototype and Group 6 Tutorial 1 with its ‘Rubens Tube’ prototype.
